PMP is a community-based Prevention and Recovery Coalition committed to providing education and increasing awareness to help individuals and communities Stay Ahead of Substance Abuse.

Worried About a Friend?
If you’ve noticed someone in your life showing signs of a substance use disorder, the first thing you should do is talk to them. It’s not an easy conversation, but it could be exactly the encouragement they need to seek help.
Advertising Drugs To Our Kids
When drug companies and CBD retail outlets use cartoons and candy advertising, they know they are appealing to kids. They also know that the younger kids are introduced to substances, the more likely they are to become addicted. PMP actively challenges these ads on every corner. When you see it, let us know and we’ll call them out on our PMP Environmental Scan.
After a PMP Workshop focused on the difference between high-risk and low-risk choices, local teens shared a song they produced to reach their peers.
Substance Abuse Is Not Ok!
High School students don’t like to be guinea pigs. The proof? They created the SAINO Pledge in one of PMP’s Teen Workshops. In their words: “Substance Abuse Is Not Ok!” They are taking the pledge back to their schools. They role played talking to their teachers and encouraging their peers to take the pledge.
The Blue Band Pledge
PMP Workshops teach teens about substance abuse and addiction in a non-judgemental, open and safe space. Many of the participants choose to become that teen advocate in their schools. The PMP Blue Bands are conversation starters.

September is Celebrate Recovery Month. Every year, PMP teams up with organizations all around the country to celebrate recovery. Treatment works. People do recover. Recovery is for Everyone.

Our funds go to Prevention of Substance Abuse, Addiction Awareness Education, and to Promoting Recovery.
Funding Drug-Free Communities
Recognizing that local problems need local solutions, DFC-funded coalitions engage multiple sectors of the community and employ a variety of environmental strategies to address local substance use problems. DFCs involve local communities in finding solutions and also helps youth at risk for substance use recognize the majority of our Nation’s youth choose not to use substances. As demonstrated by independent evaluations, the DFC Support Program significantly reduces substance use amongst youth, the target population.
DFC Coalitions consist of community leaders representing twelve sectors that organize to meet the local prevention needs of the youth and families in their communities. These twelve sectors are:
- Youth
- Parents
- Businesses
- Media
- School
- Youth-serving organizations
- Law enforcement
- Religious/fraternal organizations
- Civic and volunteer organizations
- Healthcare professionals
- State, Local, and Tribal governments
- Other organizations involved in reducing illicit substance use
By funding these coalitions, the DFC Support program ensures communities adopt a balanced and comprehensive approach to reducing substance use in their neighborhoods.
